WACA celebrates 40 years

At the 40th annual general assembly of the World Airlines Clubs Association - WACA nearly 300 delegates and observers representing Airline Clubs worldwide, met from 16 - 21 September  2007at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Cape Town to celebrate the 40th anniversary of it's foundation. 

In his welcome speech, WACA's President Mr Maga Ramasamy stated  that the 40th Assembly was to be held with the theme of translating compassion in action. To this end, Fikelela AIDS project has been selected as a long term charity partner for WACA. The Coordinator of Fikelela,  Canon Revd Rachel Mash opened the assembly . Beverley Hendricks showed a moving DVD depicting the work of Fikelela, and made a presentation.

Members of WACA brought wonderful donations of stationary and toiletries to the conference which were distributed to orphans at the Fikelela Children's Centre and Heavens Nest and to orphans being cared for by their extended families, through the Care for Kids Program. Orphans in the communities of Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Elsies River, Worcester and Gugulethu were assisted. A cash donation was received of R320-00, US$ 193-00 amounting to R1245-59 and sale of t-shirts, badges and other goods amounted to R2300-00. 

In terms of way forward the stationary and toiletries are a wonderful project that requires on going assistance. We also assist orphans with monthly food parcels  which cost about R55-00 per parcel.
